John was born in Latrobe, PA. He was the eldest of five children: Bill Bucholtz, Derry PA, Henry Bucholtz, Portage, Indiana, Bob Bucholtz (deceased) and sister, Betty Bucholtz Mekic, Latrobe PA. He is survived by his grandchildren, Christopher and Jo Ann, and three great grandchildren, Robert, Casey and Courtney.
John's passion was writing. He was able to combine his love of writing with his expertise and knowledge of Portland Cement Plaster (stucco).
From 1970-1991, John was the Manager of The South Bay Plastering Contractors Association in San Jose.
He spoke at the annual State conventions for the WLPDIAWestern Lath, Plaster, and Drywall Industries Association.
As the owner of Construction Quality Engineers and Plaster Information Center, John was a force in the plastering industry. He brought a standard of excellence to the profession. He was highly respected and was known as the "Stucco Guru".
John was able to earn his Professional Engineer's license by being "grandfathered" in. As an expert witness in hundreds of cases he would quip that he graduated from UHK; University of Hard Knocks.
John published the "Consumer Stucco Handbook" and the subscription newsletter, "Techniques and Comments". He wrote technical articles for "Wall and Ceiling" magazine and the Association of Walls and Ceilings International (AWCI).
John had been the technical consultant for many major projects including Disneyland, Marriott Hotels and Holiday Inns.
John was the internationally-known expert on stucco. He was the keynote speaker at many seminars hosted by the Association of Walls and Ceilings International (AWCI). He often spoke at the California Association of Lath and Plasterer's (now the Western Wall and Ceiling Contractors Association) annual meetings and the Texas Lath and Plastering Contractor's Association (TLPCA).
John was the secretary of the Engineers Club of San Jose. He was a long time member of Toastmasters. Rosecrucian Society, and Masons. He donated his time publishing the Playbill for The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of San Jose.
No one had more enthusiasm for living. His smile and kind words, his sense of humor were unsurpassed.
He worked until just weeks before his passing from lung cancer.
