Build to prevent MOLD
During the construction is when prevention starts. Do not enclose any wood framing that has moisture over 19 percent. The moisture measurement in the wood framing should be less than 16 percent, and the SBPCA preferred 12.9 percent as a maximum for moisture.
- Exterior Gyp sheeting should be less than 0.9 on a wood-base meter.
- Water intrusion at doors and windows are common, but the roof to wall GSM flashing
is just as important. - The flashing at concrete walks and foundations also help prevent
extra moisture at the base of walls.
The Architect should have enough ventilation designed into the building as well.

DRYWALL AND PLASTERING ASSOCIATIONS ENTER INTO MERGER TALKS
By Jason fell
Could history be in the making as they say? Recently the Northern California Drywall Contractors Assn, Lathing and Plastering Associations of Nothern California, Plastering Industry Bureau, Lathing & Plastering Institute of Nothern California, South Bay Plastering Bureau, and Sacramento Bureau for Lathing & Plastering all entered into a Historic Letter of Intent on February 1, 2005.
The letter basically says, these groups will enter into discussions regarding a merger, and that is exactly what they have done on three separate occasions. All of the meetings were positive and each group stated their main goal is to better serve the contractor and reduce the duplication in doing so. We are exploring using the Southern California Wall and Ceiling assn merger as a model.
Southern California as well as Oregon and Washington state have merged associations with the drywall and plastering groups. Keep in mind these mergers can take time however, all these groups are very sincere in their efforts to make this endeavor work. Keep your eye out for more on this one!
