MasterFormat 2004

The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) has released the Section numbers and their titles for the MasterFormat 2004 Edition. A new six-digit numbering system will replace the five-digit format of the previous editions. Section 09220 changes to 09 22 00. The first two digits will represent the division number. The second Pair of numbers are classification Level Two and the third set, Level Three.


GP DensTechnology

The traditional paper-faced sheathing for the exterior is not being manufactured by G-P Gypsum Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Georgia-Pacific Corp. The company's replacement is the DensTechnology line, which incorporates glass mats on the front/back of the moisture-resistance, noncombustible core. This substrate will have less chance for mold related problems.


WHEN WILL IT STOP!!!

The cost of metal studs is going up....through
the ceiling! If you haven't heard, the cost
of lath materials have soared since the first
of the 2004 year. Again, another increase for lath material and metal studs is expected on April 1.

In 2004 the cost has gone up 60%. April 1, 2004 another 20% increase!

When will it stop? We have been told the trade and tariff policies with countries overseas has the USA in a steel shortage. This is why the prices have increase by 60% — a steel shortage. So the problem is not gas but the steel supply is "running so low the prices must increase so much."

In the next year the Plastering Industry cost could increase by at least l0% more than any other year since the gas shortage back in the middle 70's.

Housing is still behind Job growth

The Bay Area is still 57,520 homes short of requirements projected for the year 2020. The high cost of housing in the South Bay Area will not help in comparison to other areas. Measured on a per capita basis, the Bay Area workers in 2002 were the most productive of any comparable region, including New York, Los Angles, and Houston, and held a 94% advantage over the United States average.


I-Code

Cities in 14 states adopted various I-Codes throughout the past year. I-Codes cover building guidelines like residential and energy conservation, property maintenance and private sewage disposal standards. In all, 48 states now use one or more I-Codes at the state or local level.
